It's a beautiful day!
When I first moved to the USA from a tropical country, it was the end of April, daylight savings had already begun, and the days were long.
It would still be light outside, almost until 9 PM. It was something new to me. Every now and then my collogues would say, “oh, it’s going to be a beautiful day today.”
Back then, I didn’t understand what they meant by that phrase. I grew up in India where nearly every day was a sunny day except of course during the four months of the monsoon.
I failed to understand their excitement about a “day.” It was a day. What was the big deal? There was no Google then to ask any questions.
I had to take each day as it came. I had no idea what the weather pattern was going to be like, what to expect. The naïve me had not even ever heard of such a thing as “daylight savings.” And boy, come November, was I going to be surprised!!!
By then, they had started talking about the end of daylight savings and how we were going to gain an hour but how it was going to be dark before you even left work.
And when finally, daylight savings did end, it started getting dark around 4 pm, well not actually but you know what I mean, you went to work when it was dark, you came home when it was dark; I finally realized what exactly they meant when they said the day was going to be beautiful.
The change in seasons, the weather, the time, was kind of a revelation to a new appreciation for the different weather pattern. It took me a couple of years to finally understand it all but when I did, the phrase “it’s going to be a beautiful day today ” had taken on a whole new meaning.
Having lived here for more
than 2 decades, I now know exactly what to expect when the seasons change, what
exactly is a beautiful day. Living through different seasons has their own
charms, their own unique appeal. To me, it is a reminder to appreciate each
day, what it offers, whether it’s sunshine or rain and to go outside and enjoy
that beautiful day.
Today my friends, was what one would refer to as “a
beautiful day.” I walked outside, cleared my mind, and enjoyed it to the
fullest and came home before it became dark, around 4 PM. Well, not quite but
you know what I mean. These are my ramblings on this beautiful, sunny day. What
about you? Have you ever lived in a different place other than where you grew
up? What were some of the different things you experienced or noticed weather
wise? I would love to know.
I noticed the beauty of today as well. I worked outside for a few hours just in time to see the sunset.
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing that. I am glad to hear that.
