Celebrating 25 years of motherhood, day 10 - The dialogue !

Day 10, the dialogue .  Warning - Sensitive content, trigger alert.   In the era of smart phones, having communications skills has become important even if it is in the form of a simple text. I have always encouraged them to check on others. It became even more important during the pandemic when we were socially isolated .   I know several people who have died by suicide, and I have made it my mission to talk about it, if I can help save at least one life. Not too long ago, a friend of children's was going through a rough patch, she had suffered a great personal loss. I had to ask the children to check on her, invite her home, offer help, be there. They did. They later confided in me that their kindness had saved their friend’s life. They had first hand witnessed the power of communication.  I am very vocal when it comes to talking about suicide, death in general. In our culture, talking about death or dying is a taboo. October is Mental Health Awareness Month.

October is 'Mental health awareness month.  My mother, in fact, both of my parents always told us this," à¤®ागा à¤®्हणजे à¤®िळेल", "ask and you shall receive."  You may be going through a tough time, hurting, grieving but unless you ask for help or confide in someone, no one will know, no one can help.  There are plenty of resources available. Please reach out, find someone to talk to.  There is no shame in asking. There is always someone who cares. This year's show theme of my children's school marching band is based on the same.  I tell them and all their friends to please reach out. I and I know several other parents, who are available, willing to help in whatever capacity, but you must ask.  Do not be shy or feel ashamed. I am glad I have people to reach out to and I am not shy to ask for help when I need it. My ramblings on this Sunday!

Reflections because they are just beautiful and reflecting because it allows me to be a better person, to better understand others, other situations and prepare myself for the things that I cannot change, change the things that I can change. I always saw things as they were, as they appeared and said what came to my mind, I only knew black or white; there was no room for gray. But a few years have been added to my age, more experiences, some good, some not so good and have learnt to find gray areas, not everything can be black or white. I don’t blurt things out as I used to; have learnt to add a pause , think about what I am going to say . In most cases, I still revert to my old self but in some cases, I end up not hurting their feelings, I guess you could call it a victory. So, every time I see a reflection of something, I pause and...
